Every playgroup holds the same core parts, whatever the room looks like. There is a nutritious snack, a time for reading aloud, and a mix of small and large motor activities shaped by the space. Free play runs through it all, and staff keep resources on hand for families who need extra supports.
Children get fresh air, a story, and a table to work at. They move between quiet listening and busy hands. Parents get a weekly place to land and someone to ask.
OCPCC hosts free weekly playgroups across Orange County. Each one meets in a community space such as a church, school, or library, and in summer they move to parks and village greens. A playgroup usually opens with free play while families arrive. Then comes a read-aloud, songs, and a craft or motor activity that fits the space. Children move between tables, a story rug, and whatever outdoor area is available. A nutritious snack is part of every session.
Week to week, children learn how a group works: taking a turn, sitting for a story, trying a craft, running outside. Parents see it at home in longer attention at the dinner table and easier goodbyes. The snack and the read-aloud become familiar rituals a child can count on.
